Laser cut and laser engraved voucher packaging
Step by step instructions
Today, we are going to teach you how to make a one of a kind voucher packaging with our new line of Trotec LaserPaper.
Preparation
Materials needed
- Dark blue LaserPaper - 1 sheet
- Gold LaserPaper - 1 sheet
- Slate gray LaserPaper - 1 sheet
- Liquid glue
- Glue dots or double-side adhesive tape
Machine used
- Speedy 300, 60 Watt
- 2" lens
- honeycomb table
Although we have used the Speedy 300, any machine from the Speedy laser engraver series can be used.
Info
We used the 2" lens because it produces a more uniform result on large-area engravings.
Step by step
Step 1: Make design layout
Create your own pattern and adapt it based on your needs. We engraved the camouflage section with the grayscale method. You can learn how this process works here. Use the settings below for the outer shell graphic:
Print settings:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Relief | 500 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | enhanced geometries, inner geometries first |
Step 2: Engraving process outer shell
Place the dark blue LaserPaper in the laser machine and focus on the material. Edit the material parameters to the appropriate power. Do not forget that the material settings can alter depending on the machine and power.
Laser parameters:
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
black | Engraving CO2 | 40 | 20 | 500 |
red | Engraving CO2 | 9 | 2 | 1000 |
blue | Cutting CO2 | 18 | 2 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | 0 | High Quality |
1 | on | 0 | - |
1 | on | 0 | - |
Tip:
Cover the remaining working area with standard paper to get a powerful downdraft.
Step 3: Design inner frame and "strip curtain"
Send every single graphic for frame and strip curtain to the laser using the following parameters:
Print settings:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Vector job | 1000 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Inner geometries first |
Step 4: Cutting inner frame and "strip curtain"
After you are done with the blue, place the slate gray LaserPaper in the laser machine and cut out the border. Then, using the same parameters as the slate gray, cut out the curtain out of the gold paper.
Laser parameters:
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
blue | Cut CO2 | 18 | 2 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | 0 | - |
Step 5: Assembly
To put the voucher together, take the frame and place it on the inner part over the cover (where the grip hole can be found) with the help of the glue or tape. Take the curtain and apply double sided tape to the bottom left and top right. Insert the curtain in the cover and secure it. When the card is opened, the stripes will move similarly to curtains and catch one's eye.
Inspiration
- This laser can be a great product for making a birthday card, gift packaging or seasonal greetings as it offers a wide variety of different options.
- You can also use the wood LaserPaper, which is thin enough that you can create intricate applications (covers for high-quality brochures)
