Moving wind turbine
TroCraft Eco and TroGlass are excellent Trotec materials for model making. Build this wind turbine, complete with moving blades, by using just a few small parts and the following instructions.
Preparation
Required Material
Machines Used:
- Speedy 360, 80 watts
- 2" lens
- Vacuum table with honeycomb cutting table and acrylic cutting grid
You can also create this application using any other machine in the Speedy laser engraving series.
Tip
- Throw your own spin on this application by trying out different Trotec materials and colors.
Step by step
Step 1: Design
Bring in the graphics and adjust the file to suit your needs. Use the following print settings to send the graphic file to the laser:
Process Mode | Resolution | Cut Line |
---|---|---|
Vector Job | 1000dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Enhanced Geometries, Inner Geometries first |
Step 2: Laser Process the TroCraft Eco (1mm)
Place the thin TroCraft Eco on the honeycomb cutting table in your machine and mask the rest of the working surface to build a stronger vacuum. Depending on the machine used and laser power available, parameters may vary.
Color | Process | Power output % | Speed % | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | CO2 cutting | 66 | 2 | 1,000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | 0mm | - |
Tip:
Use a small nozzel when working with TroCraft Eco for a clean cut quality.
Step 3: Print the Wind Turbine to the Laser
Use the following settings to send the turbine column graphics to your laser machine:
Process Mode | Resolution | Cut Line |
---|---|---|
Standard Job | 333dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Enhanced Geometries |
Step 4: Laser Process TroCraft Eco (3mm)
Place the 3mm thick TroCraft Eco on the honeycomb cutting table in your laser, and cover the rest of the working area again. Use the following settings to send the file to the laser. The laser parameters may change depending on the machine used and the available laser power.
Laser parameters: Engraving
Color | Process | Power % | Speed % | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | Engrave CO2 | 15 | 50 | 500 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | 0mm | High Quality |
Laser parameters: Cutting
Color | Process | Power % | Speed % | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | CO2 cutting | 100 | 0.8 | 1,000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | 0mm | - |
Step 5: Print the Stand to the Laser
Use these settings to send the TroGlass stand graphics to your Trotec Laser:
Process Mode | Resolution | Cut Line |
---|---|---|
Standard Job | 500dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Enhanced Geometries, Inner Geometries first |
Step 6: Laser process the TroGlass Black Satins
Swap out the honeycomb cutting table for your acrylic cutting table and place the TroGlass material in your Trotec Laser.
Laser parameters: Engraving
Color | Process | Power % | Speed % | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | Engrave CO2 | 20 | 50 | 500 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | 0.5mm | High Quality |
Laser parameters: Scratching
Color | Process | Power % | Speed % | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | CO2 cutting | 50 | 0.4 | 5,000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | On | 0mm | - |
Tip:
The large nozzel the best choice for working with TroGlass material.
Step 7: Assembly
Lay out all 4 parts.
Stick the wind turbine pillar into the base, and then hang the blade component on the nose and fix it with the small circle of TroGlass.
Press it just tight enough so that the wind turbine can turn.
The Trotec material made mobile wind turbine is ready.
Inspiration
- You can also create a modern, three-bladed wind turbine as an alternative to this "Don Quijote" style.
- Make it your own by using other TroGlass colors.
- Glue the fastening loop from the TroGlass for a more secure structure.
