Ruby® 2.5 – 06.02.2023

Version 2.5

In addition to new and improved features, this release also gives you access to beta features for the first time. These are marked with "Beta". Although they are not yet finalized, we still want to give you the opportunity to use them at this early stage. We look forward to your feedback. You are actively contributing to the continuous improvement of Ruby®.

New functions

Rotary: Enhanced positioning.

With the improved rotary function, it is now possible to rotate a design together with the object by locking it on the working area. This allows to position more than one graphic on different positions around the diameter. Save time by having one job for several positions instead of one job per position.

Recent and favorite material.

In job preparation, the 3 most recently used materials for jobs are displayed first in the material list. In addition, the 3 favorite materials can be saved and are displayed immediately below the most recently used materials. This way, frequently used materials can be selected directly without having to search for them in an extra step. Power and speed are displayed directly with the material. This saves time and avoids mistakes.

Nesting (Beta).

Ruby®'s nesting feature (Beta) can automatically arrange individual or grouped vectors, such as the cutting lines of letters or graphics, in a way to make the best use of workspace and material. This saves time and material.

Profiles for importing (Beta).

Profiles for importing are a next step towards automation in Ruby®. Assign profiles with desired material and layout properties to automatically push files via your Ruby® UI into your laser’s queue.

You can create profiles for recurring jobs. Material, parameters, position, scaling, rotation, and use of rotary engraving are predefined and saved. When files are imported into a profile, they are automatically forwarded to the production queue.

Time saving: Skip design and prepare steps, send files directly to production with predefined settings. This further shortens the workflow enormously and is another step towards automation in and with Ruby®.

Import Fonts (Beta).

Direct font import allows to use custom fonts with Ruby®. Simply add the font in this menue by drag&drop. Fonts can also be imported remotely and with Run on Ruby® systems. Add custom fonts to Ruby® to enable full text editing.

Beta features.

From now on Trotec provides features of Ruby® in Beta status as well. Users with administrator rights can easily activate and deactivate features in beta status. If deactivated features in beta status are not visible for the users.

Improvements and updates:

Vision Print&Cut.

With the improved Vision Print&Cut it is now possible to skip poorly or not recognizable registration marks with one simple mouse click. Consequently, only a minimum number of register marks must be detected, without affecting the accuracy of the cut. This saves material and time.

Font Size.

Ruby® allows now to enter a font size for texts directly. Therefore, the size of texts can not only be defined via the object properties, but especially multiple texts can be assigned with the same font size. This works not only for multiple text, but also for different fonts.

Firmware list filter.

The firmware list that is displayed during the firmware update procedure is now filtered based on the connected machine so that only firmware of a specific machine category is shown.

Vision Design & Position connection state.

The connection status of the Vision Design & Position camera is now shown in the settings status information.

Pasted images arranged automatically.

The automatic arrangement of designs when added to a job is now also available for images that are pasted directly from the computers clipboard.

Extended language support.

Ruby® is now also available in Czech language.

Updated icons.

Some icons in Ruby® like the “Stamp shoulder” icons have been updated to indicate functions more clearly.

Material effects.

In the material database the list of effects has been moved to the bottom of the material settings to provide more space for the list of materials.

Notable bugfixes:

  • Design array: values that can be entered for the array boundaries are now limited. Maximum size is the size of the machines table +/- size of the design
  • Context menu on Run on Ruby touch display disabled: sometimes a black context menu appeared on Run on Ruby® touch displays. This menu is now disabled
  • Print&Cut job timer: timer only starts when regmarks are detected and laser started
