Personalized agate pendant
Step by step instruction
Learn how to engrave a piece of agate stone with a Trotec laser engraver.
Preparation
Required material
- Agate disks
- Leather band
Machine used
- Speedy 360, 100 Watt
- 1.5" lens
- Vacuum table
For this example, any laser machine from the Speedy laser engraver series can be used.
Tip
We used the 1.5" lens for this sample because we wanted to engrave a filigree design.
Step by step
Step 1: Import design
Create your own design or simply import our template. We scanned our agate disk to adapt our design directly to the shape of the stone. Send the job to the laser using the driver settings as following:
Print settings
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 1000 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color |
TIP:
For a perfect result of our detailed graphics we used the highest possible resolution of 1000 dpi for our engraving job.
Step 2: Laser Engraving the agate
Position the agate disk into your Trotec Laser engraver and focus on the surface. If the stone is rounded, focus on the average value of the laser engraving area. Create the material parameter settings. The parameters vary depending on the laser machine and laser power.
Laser Parameters engraving
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
black | Engrave CO2 | 50 | 30 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | + 1.5 mm | high quality |
Tip:
Due to the +1.5 mm z-offset (out of focus) the contrast is higher than engraving in focus.
Step 3: Post-processing and assembly
The pendant does not have to be cleaned after engraving. Add a leather band or a pin and your personalised agate pendant is ready.
