3D bullet labyrinth made of TroLase ADA Signage
Make this exciting 3D bullet labyrinth using TroLase ADA Signage and your Trotec laser.
Preparation
You Will Need
- 1/4 TroLase ADA Signage 3.2mm, black
- 1/4 TroLase ADA Signage 3.2mm, white
- Paper to cover the engraving table
- 1x marble (Ø max. 12mm)
Machine Used
- Speedy 360, 80W
- 2" lens
- Vacuum table
- Acrylic cutting grid
You can use any machine from the Trotec Speedy series to create this sample.
Tips
We decided to use the 2" lens for this job. This is because the design of the connectors in the graphics file has been adapted for the kerf.
Step by step
Step 1: Import Design
Design your own box, or feel free to use our available template. Then, send the file to the laser machine using the following print settings:
Process Mode | Resolution | Cut Line |
---|---|---|
Cut Job | 1000 dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Colour | Enhanced Geometries, Inner Geometries First |
Tip:
We created a file on makeabox.io for the base frame of our labyrinth and adapted the file for the ADA material. For TroLase ADA Signage enter a value of 0.2mm into the 'kerf' feild.
Step 2: Laser Process - TroLase ADA Signage
Place your acrylic cutting grid inside your laser machine. Cut the outer walls as well as the bottom from the black TroLase ADA Signage. For the playing field, we decided to use the white ADA Signage, with the same parameters as the black. We scratched the positions of the individual labyrinth 'inner walls' into the playing field, so that when it comes time to assemble, we won't make any mistakes!
The parameters required for the ADA Signage may vary depending on the laser machine you are using and its power.
Laser Parameters:
Colour | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Scratching: Red | Cut CO2 | 10 | 1.5 | 1000 |
Marking Letters: Blue | Cut CO2 | 25 | 1.5 | 1000 |
"Wide" Scratching: Cyan | Cut CO2 | 20 | 1.5 | 1000 |
Cutting: Green | Cut CO2 | 95 | 0.8 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | ON | 1mm | - |
1 | ON | 2mm | - |
1 | ON | 4mm | - |
1 | ON | -1.6mm | - |
Tip:
For a nice, clean finish, try leaving the protective foil on the material while you are laser processing it. However, make sure you don't forget to take it off once you're finished - you'll have to remove it from every single piece!
Step 3: Cleaning & Assembly
Remove the protective foil from any piece you have left it on and begin cleaning the surface with a simple, multi-purpose cleaner and a soft cloth. Insert the playing field into the holding slots and add one of the shorter side parts. Close the contraption with the two remaining side parts. Finally, place the single 'walls' of the labyrinth into the marked-out areas. Now, your 3D Labyrinth is ready to go!
Tip:
You can even clean the edges of your labyrinth with an alcohol-based cleanser or solution. This will prevent the piece from losing its colour over time.
Inspiration
- Try creating playing fields using different difficulty levels. You can use many different products, but the exact same base frame for them all.
- Combine TroLase ADA Signage with some smooth, veneered wood. This will add a touch of exclusivity to your labyrinth.
