Step 2: Laser engraving the photo frame

Place the photo frame on the bed of your laser engraver. Make sure the areas you want to engrave are flat because you will be engraving both the wooden frame and glass in one pass. (You will also need to position a distance holder due to the leg on the back of the frame.) Focus on the glass.

When you engrave materials with a height difference, you need to calculate the z-Offset. For this application, we entered an offset value of +7 mm. (The height difference between the two materials is 7 mm.) Note that the required settings can vary based on the laser engraving machine you are using, and the available laser power.

Laser Parameters Color Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
Dark engraving (wood) Black Engrave CO2 35 50 500
Light engraving (wood) Red Engrave CO2 10 50 500
Engraving (glass) Blue Engrave CO2 40 50 500
Laser Parameters Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
Dark engraving (wood) 1 On +7 mm High Quality
Light engraving (wood) 1 On +7 mm High Quality
Engraving (glass) 1 On - -

Tip:

Cut the leftover acrylic or MDF in circles or cross-shapes and use them as distance holders.
