Laser engraved photo frame
In this tutorial you will learn how to laser engrave an individual design on a wooden photo frame.
Preparation
Required material
- 1 picture frame, solid wood
Machine used
- Speedy 360, 120 watts
- 2" lens
- vacuum table
Tip
Take your design to the next level by customising the design even further to suit your customer's needs.
Step by step
Step 1: Import design
Make use of our provided graphics file as a template to create your own individual design. Upload the graphics to the laser using the driver settings below:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 500 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | - |
Step 2: Laser engraving the photo frame
Place the picture frame on the bed of your Trotec laser machine. Because this is a bulky object, make sure the areas to be engraved are flat for the engraving, as you will be engraving both the wooden frame and glass in one pass (note you will also need to position a distance holder due to the leg on the back of the frame). Focus on the glass.
Because we're engraving materials with height differences you must calculate the z-Offset. In our case we put an offset value of +7 mm as the height difference between the two materials is 7 mm. Please note the parameters can vary depending the machine you are using and available laser power.
Laser Parameters | Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Dark engraving (wood) | Black | Engrave CO2 | 35 | 50 | 500 |
Light engraving (wood) | Red | Engrave CO2 | 10 | 50 | 500 |
Engraving (glass) | Blue | Engrave CO2 | 40 | 50 | 500 |
Laser Parameters | Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|---|
Dark engraving (wood) | 1 | On | +7 mm | High Quality |
Light engraving (wood) | 1 | On | +7 mm | High Quality |
Engraving (glass) | 1 | On | - | - |
Tip:
You can use leftovers of acrylic or MDF for the distance holders. Cut them in circles or cross-shapes.
Step 3: Cleaning
Clean the picture frames by wiping it down with a damp cloth. This will help to remove excess residue from the engraving process. Your picture frame is now ready for display!
