Laser engraved photo frame
In this tutorial you will learn how to laser engrave an individual design on a wooden photo frame.
Follow our tutorial to personalise a wooden photo frame using your laser machine. We currently have a limited range of photo frames available to purchase on our engraving supplies webshop.
Preparation
Material required
- 1 solid wood photo frame
Laser engraving machine used
- Speedy 360, 120 watts
- 2" lens
- Vacuum table
Tip
A photo frame is a blank canvas which can be personalised to suit the needs of customers.
Step by step
Step 1: Importing design file
Whether you choose your own design or use our ready made template, send your job to the laser using the below settings:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 500 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Colour | - |
Step 2: Laser engraving the photo frame
Place the photo frame onto your laser engraving machine's bed making sure that the areas to be engraved are flat. This is because we want to engrave both the wooden frame and glass in a single pass (note you will also need to position a distance holder due to the leg on the back of the frame). Focus your laser on the glass.
As we engrave materials with height differences you must calculate the z-Offset. In our example we put an offset value of +7 mm as the height difference between the two materials is 7 mm. Please note the parameters vary depending on the laser engraving machine used and its available laser power.
Laser Parameters | Colour | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Dark engraving (wood) | Black | Engrave CO2 | 35 | 50 | 500 |
Light engraving (wood) | Red | Engrave CO2 | 10 | 50 | 500 |
Engraving (glass) | Blue | Engrave CO2 | 40 | 50 | 500 |
Laser Parameters | Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|---|
Dark engraving (wood) | 1 | On | +7 mm | High Quality |
Light engraving (wood) | 1 | On | +7 mm | High Quality |
Engraving (glass) | 1 | On | - | - |
Tip:
For the distance holders you can use leftover material such as acrylic or MDF. Circles or cross-shapes work better.
Step 3: Cleaning
Once the laser engraving is completed clean the photo frames with a damp cloth to remove any dust residue. Your photo frame is ready for display.
Inspiration
Photo frames can be used for many different occasions. You can make wedding gifts, favours and even graduation gifts tailored to individual requirements.
