Table decoration vintage style
See in this DIY sample how you can create a table decoration in vintage style using jute fabric and fusible interfacing.
Preparation
You Will Need
- Jute fabric, cut by the metre - approx. 40 x 50cm
- Fusible interfacing D24 H200 - approx. 35 x 35cm
- Iron / press
Machine Used
- Speedy 360
- 80W
- 2" lens
- Nozzle with large diameter
- Vacuum table with honeycomb cutting table
You can create this sample using any laser machine from the Trotec Speedy Series.
Important
Please remember to close the throttle valve! This will maximise the vacuum power and lead to a better engraving result.
Step by step
Step 1: Jute (Hessian) Fabric
Create your design. Or, if you'd prefer, you are welcome to use the template we have provided. Send it to your laser machine using the following printer settings:
Process Mode | Resolution | Cut Line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 500dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Colour | Optimised Geometries Inner Geometries First |
Step 2: Laser Process - Fabric
Now, you must create the parameter settings. Please note that our parameters may differ depending on what laser machine you are using and its available laser power.
Tip: We recommend ironing the fabric before you begin engraving it. You will achieve better and cleaner results if the fabric is flat and smooth.
Colour | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | Engrave CO2 | 75 | 80 | 500 |
Red (Scratching) | Cut CO2 | 13 | 1 | 1000 |
Blue | Cut CO2 | 50 | 1.5 | 1000 |
Colour | Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | 1 | ON | 20mm | - |
Red (Scratching) | 1 | ON | 10mm | 1 |
Blue | 1 | ON | - | - |
Step 3: Fusible Interfacing
Create your own design, or feel free to use our provided template again. Then, send it to the laser machine using the following print settings:
Process Mode | Resolution | Cut Line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 333dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Ordered Dithering | Optimised Geometries |
Step 4: Laser Process - Interfacing
Create the parameter settings again. Remember, our parameters may differ depending on what laser machine you are using as well as its available laser power.
Tip: Take extra care in engraving on the front of the material, not the back! (Engrave on the non-sticky side).
Colour | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | Engrave CO2 | 50 | 100 | 500 |
Red | Cut CO2 | 15 | 2 | 1000 |
Colour | Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | 1 | ON | - | Optimised Quality (Correction 15) |
Red | 1 | ON | - | - |
Step 5: Finishing
Now it's time to stick the fusible interfacing onto the jute fabric. Use an iron or press of some kind. Position the lace design exactly where you'd like it before pressing the fabric.
Settings should be:
Iron - Medium heat (level 2), 8 seconds
Press - 130 - 165°C, 8 seconds
Important: Place a piece of fabric onto the interfacing before pressing the hot iron down on top of it. This will prevent the material from sticking to the hot surface and ruining all your hard work.
If you want a more 'rustic' style, try removing tiny strands of the hessian material to create a frayed effect.
