Marble lucky charm
Step by step instruction
In no time at all you can use your laser engraving machine to turn small marble pieces into lucky charms.
Preparation
Required materials
Small marbles stones. In our example we used a marble mosaic tile and removed the marble from the mat.
Laser machine used
- Speedy 360, 100 Watt
- 1.5" lens
- Vacuum table
Any Speedy laser engraver can be used to create this sample.
Tip
To engrave fine details use the 1.5" lens.
Step by step
Step 1: Import design
The first step is to either make your own design or import our ready made template. Send the job to the laser software using the driver settings below.
Print settings
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 1000 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Colour | - |
TIP:
We used the highest resolution possible of 1000 dpi for our graphics during the laser engraving job.
Step 2: Engraving the marble
Prior to processing wash off the natural dust on the stone using running water. Once dry, position it onto your laser machine bed and focus on the material surface. If the stone is rounded, focus on the average value of the engraving area. Next you need to create the material parameter settings, which will vary depending on your laser machine and its available laser power.
LASER PARAMETERS - LASER ENGRAVING:
Colour | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
black | Engrave CO2 | 50 | 20 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | - 0.5 mm | - |
INFO:
We used a negative offset value as this exposes the surface to more laser power, resulting in the engraving showing a greater contrast.
Step 3: Cleaning
Clean the debris from the marble with a damp cloth. Unlike pre-processing this time you shouldn't put the marble under running water, as this might wash out the engraving dust which ensures the contrast is visable.
Inspiration
The design is only limited by your imagination: Engrave sayings, slogans or quotes on the stones.
Personalise the stones with names or dates to add additional value to your finished workpiece.
