Flower Swing Made From Solid Wood
In only a few steps and minimal material you can make this flower swing from solid wood. The ideal present for Mother's Day!
Preparation
Required Materials
- 1 Sheet of solid alder wood (5mm)
- Masking material
Machine Used
- Speedy 360 (80W)
- 2" Lens
- Aluminum cutting table
You can also produce this application with all other machines in the Speedy laser engraving series.
Additional Information
With the appropriate design settings, you are able to cut two flower swings using a single quarter (24" x 12") alder wood sheet.
Step by step
Step 1: Import Design and Adjust Laser Settings
Import our graphics and adapt the file to your requirements. Our file is crafted for 5mm-thick material. For materials of other thicknesses, ensure to adjust the design elements accordingly. Using the following settings, send the file to your Trotec laser:
JobControl Settings:
Process Mode | Resolution | Cut Line: |
---|---|---|
Standard Job | 333dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Enhanced Geometries, Inner Geometries First |
NOTE: We used a 333dpi resolution because less time was required for engraving.
Step 2: Laser Cut and Engrave the Alder Wood
Insert the solid wood sheet into your Trotec laser, and cover the remaining working surface to maximize the vacuum's suction power on the wood sheet.
Then proceed to engrave and cut the job.
For a uniform look, you may also engrave the back sides of the pieces. To do this, remove the cut pieces and place them in the same position, with their back sides side facing upwards. You can now repeat the engraving job.
NOTE: The parameters may vary depending on the laser machine used and available laser power:
Laser Parameters:
Parameters | Color | Process | Power % | Speed % |
---|---|---|---|---|
Engraving | Black | Engrave CO2 | 70 | 100 |
Cutting | Red | Cutting CO2 | 100 |
ppi/Hz | Passes | Air Assist | Z-offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|---|
500 | 1 | ON | +8mm | - |
1,000 | 1 | ON | 0mm | - |
Step 3: Assembly
Insert the two parts of the flower swing into one another and then place the circular support plate on the structure.
Lastly, secure the flower swing to the ceiling with a cord and include your desired floral decoration.
You've now completed this lovely decoration for Mother's Day!
Why Should You Use Trotec's Laserable Wood?
The wood engraving sheets available at Trotec have been tested by our experts and specially selected for laser engraving and cutting. They are optimally-sized for use with a Trotec laser, and they have a high-quality appearance and homogenous wood structure.
Trotec lasers are designed to create detailed engravings and cuts on sheets comoposed of solid wood, wood veneer, plywood, TroCraft Eco, and medium-density fibreboard (MDF).
Depending on the selected laser settings and the wood structure, various optical effects can be achieved with a laser. For instance, you may create deep, white, and dark brown-coloured engraving.
Inspiration
- Use a different solid wood variety or a 6mm MDF sheet from the Trotec product range for this DIY project, as these materials are stable and resilient. Be sure to adjust the notches for the connector if you select MDF.
- Combine bright and dark solid wood varieties from the Trotec range to create a unique and natural look.
- For a customized appearance, paint the wood parts on both sides before engraving (NOTE: MDF is the optimal material choice if you wish to build a painted flower swing).
