Bottle display made of printed TroGlass XT
Create an original bottle display from TroGlass XT. Extruded acrylic has a constant material thickness and is therefore suitable for applications where parts have to be put together.
Preparation
Materials
- 1 quarter-sheet of TroGlass XT (1/8")
Did you know that a single single acrylic sheet has different thickness throughout its entirety?
The variability in thickness — or tolerance, as it is commonly called — is a normal outcome of acrylic production, regardless of which process is used. However, the type of acrylic will indicate the degree of variability you can expect. Extruded acrylics (such as TroGlass XT) are generally a better choice for projects that require cutouts to fit together, since they have a relatively low tolerance.
Machinery and Accessories
- Speedy 360 (80 watts)
- JobControl® Vision
- 2" lens
- White acrylic gutting grid
- UV printer with a minimum 12" x 24" work area
A Speedy 300 or Speedy 400 system equipped with JobControl® Vision can also be used for this project.

Step by step
Step 1: Prepare Artwork and UV Print TroGlass XT Sheet
To begin, download our designs (below). Please note that the folder contains two documents:
- UV printing file: DIY-Print_preview.pdf
- Laser cutting file: DIY-bottle-display-TroGlassXT.pdf
Please note that the display stand can accommodate bottles having a 6 cm diameter, at most. If you wish to use the stand for wider bottles, you will need to adjust the artwork.
Once you are satisfied with your designs, proceed to UV print the pineapple images (i.e., from the DIY-Print_preview.pdf file) the reverse side of the TroGlass XT sheet.
Tips
If you choose to make any adjustments to the size or shape of the pineapple elements on one file, ensure that they are also made to the corresponding elements on the other file. In other words, the size and contours of the pineapple elements on both files should be identical. Otherwise, the artwork may be too large or small to fit on the cutouts.
It is also important to include registration marks that can be recognized by your JobControl® Vision system. This will ensure that the contours of the artwork are cut with precision.
Step 2: Test Cut TroGlass XT Sheet
Before drawing the final connections, measure the kerf. To accomplish this, simply make a test cut with a suitable parameter and lens.
TIP
As TroGlass XT has little variability in its thickness, you can apply the same settings from your test results to future projects (for which you use the same material and thickness).
Step 3: Send Cutting File to Laser
Once you are satisfied with your results, send the job to your laser using the following settings:
Print Settings
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Vector Job | 500dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
- | Optimized Geometries, inner geometries first |
Step 4: Laser Process TroGlass XT Sheet
Place the TroGlass XT sheet on the white acrylic cutting grid table in your laser.
Next, enter the laser parameters specified below. Please note that the optimal parameters will vary based on your specific laser and its available wattage. Then proceed to laser cut the sheet.
Processing Parameters
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
red | Cut CO2 | 70 | 0,4 | 15.000 |
Passes | Air Assist | z-Offset | Direction | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | ON | - | - | - |
Step 5: Assemble Bottle Stand
To begin constructing your stand, connect the square pineapple skin cutout to the bottom of the large pineapple-shaped cutout.
Attach the clear TroGlass XT piece with the circular cut to the large pineapple cutout, using the remaining slots. To complete the stand, simply attach the piece with the pineapple slice images to the front of the stand, with the printed side facing inwards.
TroGlass XT: Precise and Durable Results
As an extruded acrylic, TroGlass XT features low thickness variability (tolerance). Hence, this material ideal for projects which require cutouts to easily connect — think model making, prototyping, and POS display manufacturing.
Additionally, TroGlass XT is highly resistant to weathering, which makes it a good option for signage and exterior design applications.
