Table decoration vintage style
See in this DIY sample how you can create a table decoration in vintage style using jute fabric and fusible interfacing.
Preparation
Materials required
- Jute fabric, approx. 40 x 50 cm
- Fusible interfacing D24 H200, approx. 35 x 35 cm
- Iron or press
Laser machine used
- Speedy 360
- 80 watts
- 2" lens
- Nozzle with large diameter
- Vacuum table with honeycomb cutting table
Any Speedy laser engraving machine can be used to create this sample.
Important
Make sure you close the throttle valve to maximise the vacuum power.
Step by step
Step 1: Jute fabric
Create your own design or import our ready made template. Send it to the laser using the following settings:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 500 dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Colour | Optimised geometries inner geometries first |
Step 2: Laser processing the jute fabric
Create the parameter settings - these will differ depending on your laser machine and its available laser power.
Tip: Iron the jute before engraving. You get better results if the material is very flat.
Colour | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | Engrave CO2 | 75 | 80 | 500 |
Red (scratching) | Cut CO2 | 13 | 1 | 1000 |
Blue | Cut CO2 | 50 | 1.5 | 1000 |
Colour | Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | 1 | on | 20mm | - |
Red (scratching) | 1 | on | 10mm | 1 |
Blue | 1 | on | - | - |
Step 3: Fusible interfacing
As with the jute fabric create your design or use our ready made template. Send it to the laser using the following settings:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 333 dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Ordered Dithering | Optimised geometries |
Step 4: Laser processing Fusible interfacing
As before create the laser parameters which will differ depending on laser machine and available laser power.
Tip: When laser engraving make sure that you are processing the front of the material, as this is non-sticky.
Colour | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | Engrave CO2 | 50 | 100 | 500 |
Red | Cut CO2 | 15 | 2 | 1000 |
Colour | Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | 1 | On | - | Optimised quality, correction 15 |
Red | 1 | On | - | - |
Step 5: Finishing
To complete your vintage style mat, fix the fusible interfacing onto the jute fabric. This can be done with either an iron or a press. Position the lace design on the jute and press or iron it.
Settings:
Iron: Medium heat (level 2), 8 seconds
Press: 130 - 165°C, 8 seconds
Important: Put a piece of fabric on the interfacing before you iron or press it, as this prevents the material from eventually sticking on the hot surface.
For a more country themed design, remove single jute threads and create fringes.
