Ameritape uses a Trotec to create strong customer relationships.
“We chose a Trotec laser because of its versatility.” - Tom Whipple
Ameritape is a distributer and converter of pressure sensitive adhesive tapes, foams and label stock. The company specialises in purchasing large log rolls of product from suppliers and custom slit them to meet the specifications of customers, most of which operate in the aerospace and electronics industries, although they do work with customers from other industries such as medical, retail, transportation and industrial distribution. Ameritape’s headquarters is located in Jacksonville, Florida, and they currently utilise a Speedy 400 120w laser engraving machine to create customised adhesive solutions.
Ameritape contacted Trotec to create a more efficient and cost effective prototyping process.
Prior to the purchase of the Trotec laser machine, Ameritape performed prototyping for customers using steel roll dies, a very time consuming and expensive process. They were also experiencing limitations regarding customisation capabilities. When processing VBH materials with a rotary or steel roll die, intricate details proved to be difficult to achieve, which limited the number of custom jobs Ameritape could take on. To remedy the situation, Tom Whipple, president of Ameritape, decided to research laser technology to find a solution that allowed them to create a more cost effective and efficient prototyping process as well as offer detailed, intricate solutions to their customers. After speaking with several laser manufacturers about their machines, Tom contacted Trotec laser.
“Our Trotec helps us fulfill customer needs a lot faster!” - Tom Whipple
Ameritape initially contacted Universal Laser Systems to find a laser solution that addressed their requirements. After a demonstration where he experienced the capabilities of the ULS systems, Tom Whipple contacted the Trotec sales representative in the area. During the laser machine demonstration, Ameritape found that the Speedy 400 was able to accommodate cutting of many different material types and drastically decrease prototyping production time and costs. The team have found that since purchasing their laser machine they have been able to perform through-cuts, kiss cuts and intricate designs according to customer specifications with ease. This has allowed them to accept a wider range of custom jobs than previously possible. Thanks to the Speed of their Trotec laser machine, customers can now receive prototypes within hours after ordering which was not previously possible.

In addition to speeding up the prototyping process and decreasing customer costs, Ameritape’s Speedy 400 laser engraving machine has allowed them to create personalised promotional items which can be given to existing and potential customers. Tom Whipple explains that this unexpected processing avenue has allowed them to develop long-lasting relationships with their customers on a more intimate level. The products also offer a method of continuous advertising for Ameritape, helping to increase repeat business for the company.
