DuraBlack® is the material for tough and demanding environments. DuraBlack® is a CO2 laserable matte black non-reflective aluminium benefiting from a urethane protective top coat. Resistant to weathering, salt water, chemicals and high temperatures, it conforms to various industry and military standards. When laser engraved, it produces an “A” grade high-resolution white metallic contrast suited to barcoding and graphics.

What's the difference between cast and extruded acrylic?

While both extruded and cast acrylic are suitable for laser cutting and engraving, slight differences between them will determine the ideal choice for different applications.

  Extruded acrylic Cast acrylic
Pros: Cost-effective, consistent thickness and smooth cut edges when laser cut Superior cust quality, excellent for detailed engraving and minimal melting and burrs
Cons: Less suitable for high-detail engraving, prone to melting and burrs when cutting More expensive, slight variations in thickness
Best used for:  Basic cutting applications, projects where cost is a primary concern High-quality cutting and engraving projects, intricate designs, and applications requiring excellent optical clarity

To summarise, for laser processing, cast acrylic is generally the preferred choice due to its superior performance in both cutting and engraving. Extruded acrylic, while more cost-effective, is better suited for projects where the highest quality of engraving detail is not essential.
