Wooden beard combs
The designer Andrei Bulai, who proudly owns a full beard, has created these fantastic beard combs with Trotec wood. This simple tutorial also includes the graphic file for download and the parameters to be used.
Preparation
Required material
- 3 mm MDF, available here
- Additional material to cover the rest of the work surface (e.g. paper)
Machine used
- Speedy 360, 100 Watt
- 2" lens
- honeycomb table
Tips
- After placing the material in the laser machine, cover the rest of the work surface with another sheet of paper to ensure maximum suction.
- Use a 2'' lens that can make a clean, fast cut.
Step by step
Step 1: Make design layout
Download the comb template. There are three different designs to choose from, and you can create the size you like based on the beard size! Place the wood on the work surface and cover the rest of the surface with other material (e.g. paper) to ensure maximum suction.
Print settings:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 500 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | enhanced geometries, inner geometries first |
Step 2: Engraving process
Adjust the parameter settings. The right settings can differ depending on the laser machine used and laser power available.
LASER PARAMETERS
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
black | engrave CO2 | 55 | 50 | 500 |
red | cut CO2 | 100 | 1.8 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | 6 mm | - |
1 | on | - | - |
Step 3: Post-processing
After finishing the laser cutting and engraving steps, carefully remove the comb from the rest of the wood, being careful not to break the thinner pieces. Clean the comb with a damp cloth and voilà! Your beard comb is ready.
