Decorative Mother's Day bouquet made of TroGlass and wood veneer
Use our step-by-step instructions below to make a decorative Mother's Day bouquet.
Preparation
Required material
- 1 sheet solid wood walnut
- 1 sheet wood veneer maple
- 1/4 sheet TroGlass Color Gloss green transparent
- 1/4 sheet TroGlass clear
-
optional:
- hot air gun
- bench vice
- work gloves
Machine used
- Speedy 400 flexx, 100 watts
- 2" lens or 2.5" lens for TroGlass Clear 10mm
- vacuum table with honeycomb cutting table resp. acrylic grid
For this sample you can use any laser machine from the Speedy laser engraver series.
Tip
You can use leftover material for the "blossoms."
Step by step
Step 1: Import design
You can make your own design, use our template, or import our template and adapt it to your requirements. In our design, we engraved a recess out of the base plate to hold the metallic ring. Send the job to the laser using the driver settings below.
Print settings:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Cut Job | 1000 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Optimized geometries, inner geometries first |
Step 2: Engraving base plate
Use the acrylic cutting grid and a 2.5" lens with your Trotec laser. Place the TroGlass Clear on the cutting grid, and cut the base using the following settings. The settings may differ depending on the laser machine you're using and laser power available.
Laser Parameters Cutting
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
red | Cut CO2 | 95 | 0.2 | 20000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | -3 mm | - |
Info:
We used the standard parameters TroGlass Clear (speed optimized) from JobControl® .
Step 3: Design "grass"
Send the design for the grass to the laser using the settings below.
Print settings:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 500 dpi | Color |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Color | Optimized geometries |
Step 4: Laser process "grass"
Put the dark green transparent TroGlass onto the acrylic cutting grid of your Trotec laser. Use the 2" lens for this and all following tasks for this application. Engrave and cut the design with the following parameters. The parameters can differ depending on the laser machine used and laser power available.
Laser parameters
Process | Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Engraving | black | Engrave CO2 | 14 | 20 |
Cutting | red | Cut CO2 | 100 | 1 |
ppi/Hz | Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|---|
500 | 1 | on | 0mm | High Quality |
1000 | 1 | on | - | - |
Tip:
Start the engraving process from the bottom so that the dust cannot settle on the engraved area.
Step 5: Design "Stem"
The next step is to send the design of the solid wood stem to the laser using the driver settings below.
Print settings:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Cut Job | 1000 dpi | none |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
- | Optimized geometries |
Step 6: Laser process "Stem"
Change the acrylic cutting grid against the honeycomb cutting table and place the walnut sheet on the table. Cover the rest of the engraving area to maximize vacuum. Then cut the material using the parameters below:
Laser Paramters Cutting
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
red | Cut CO2 | 100 | 1 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | - | - |
Tip:
When you cover the engraving area, you produce a vacuum. This helps you achieve a clean and consistent cut.
Step 7: Design "Blossoms"
Put the maple veneer sheet into the laser, and carefully cover the rest of the engraving table. Then cut the blossoms using the following parameters:
Laser Parameters Cutting
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
red | Cut CO2 | 100 | 1.2 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | - | - |
Tip:
You can compensate for differences in material thickness by focusing on the middle of the sheet. This is especially helpful if you are cutting an entire sheet.
Step 8: Laser process "Blossoms"
Put the maple veneer sheet into the laser, and carefully cover the rest of the engraving table. Then cut the blossoms using the following parameters:
Laser Parameters Cutting
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
red | Cut CO2 | 100 | 1.2 | 1000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | - | - |
Step 9: Assembly
Put the stem into the base and decorate it with the blossoms. You can get creative with your arrangement, and give it depth by combining large and small blossoms. Next, position the grass into the base, and then your decorative Mother's Day bouquet is ready.
Assembly tip:
You can make your bouquet more eye-cathcing by twisting the blades of grass. To do this, position the "blades of grass" into a bench vice or another heat-resistant holder. Take a hot air gun and carefully heat the filigree grass. Then deform and twist the hot acrylic. Don't forget to wear gloves! Hold the acrylic in place until it is cooled down. With a little practice, you can get impressive objects.

You can use other TroGlass colors and styles such as TroGlass Satins or TroGlass Frosted to make a unique design.
