Brake disc marking according to EURO 7
Discover how Trotec’s laser marking system meets Euro 7 standards, reducing brake wear emissions and ensuring easy integration into production lines.
With the Euro 7 regulation adopted this year, vehicle manufacturers will soon only be able to obtain new type approvals if they meet the stricter emissions standard. This standard will be mandatory for existing vehicle types at a later date. Among other things, Euro 7 sets new specifications for tire and brake wear. This means: Not only combustion engines and hybrid vehicles are affected, but also electric cars! The automotive industry is therefore already actively working on a solution that is optimally manageable in practice.
The challenge
A special hard coating is applied to brake discs to reduce material abrasion and particulate matter during braking. This coating can reduce particulate emissions by 70-90%! However, to be technically effective, it requires a certain minimum thickness over the entire surface
The ideal solution
Regardless of the type of brake disc, a wear mark is the ideal solution to the problem because it is engraved at different depths and allows a simple visual inspection throughout the life cycle of the brake disc or pad to determine whether it still meets the Euro 7 standard. This eliminates the need for costly disassembly, test stands and downtime.
- Fast and reliable laser marking
- Short cycle times for deep engraving
- Easy integration without the need for force-fit clamping (for robots, manipulators or balancers)
- Direct placement on the component
- Maximum safety without protective housing with the patented Safetycone
- Flexibility in the choice of materials
The production process
Trotec has developed a system specifically for marking brake discs that can be easily integrated into existing or new production lines without the need for force-fit clamping. The specially designed safety cone isolates the laser beam and can be placed directly on the component. This solution enables laser safety class 1 operation, eliminating the need for a safety enclosure!
