Colored annealing keyring with MOPA-Laser
Learn in this tutorial how you can create colored annealing on stainless steel with a MOPA laser.
In this tutorial we show you how to create coloured laser markings on stainless steel using a MOPA laser source.
Preparation
Material required
Stainless steel key ring
Laser machine used
- SpeedMarker 700
- 20 watt MOPA
- f254 lens
For this tutorial you can use any SpeedMarker series, Speedy fiber or Speedy flexx laser machine. Please note that MOPA laser sources are only available for SpeedMarker laser machine.
Important information
Depending on the alloy, the laser marking results on your chosen stainless steel may differ from those shown in this tutorial.
To achieve different colours, the pulse width has to be changed. This means that you can only achieve black laser marking results using a standard fiber laser source.
Step by step
Step 1: Design
You can create your own design or import our template. Start by importing the PDF with layers into the SpeedMark laser software and assign parameters and fillings to the object.
Tip:
Define the parameters in advance.
Filling for | Fill style | Line distance [mm] | Additional |
---|---|---|---|
Text | cross lines (bidirectional) | 0.003 | - |
Letters | Bidirectional | 0.03 | - |
Lines | Bidirectional | 0.001 | - |
Dots | Bidirectional | 0.001 | Optimise filling |
Wind rose | Bidirectional | 0.001 | Optimise filling |
Border | None | - | - |
Step 2: Laser process
The next ste[ is to enter the parameter settings. These will differ depending in the laser machine you use and its available laser power.
Position the work piece with the help of border marking.
Laser parameter | Process | Power [%] | Frequency [kHz] |
---|---|---|---|
Text | Marking | 50 | 150 |
Letters | Marking | 60 | 60 |
Lines | Marking | 60 | 189 |
Dots | Marking | 84 | 261 |
Wind rose | Marking | 54 | 260 |
Border | Positioning | - | - |
Speed [mm/s] | Pulse width [ns] | Passes |
---|---|---|
1000 | 200 | 1 |
2000 | 200 | 2 |
2000 | 8 | 1 |
2000 | 100 | 1 |
2000 | 100 | 1 |
- | - | - |
Step 3: Post processing
As the annealing method of laser marking leaves the material surface unchanged there is no post processing required in this tutorial.
