Idea
Using this inspiration, play around with various more engravings and designs for a customisation.
Step by step
Step 1: Creating Your Design
Download this template or redesign your own. These guidelines are suitable for a 14" laptop, however this can be easily adapted to any other size.
The design consists of two parts: The exterior with pattern; and the interior with outside contour and marking for the seam.
You may now direct the job to the laser with the following printer driver settings:
Print Settings:
Standard | 500 dpi | none |
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|
Colour | Optimised geometries, inner geometries first |
Halftone | Others |
---|
Step 2: Engraving and cutting process
It is important to first test the material before you begin the engraving process.
Start by positioning the material into the laser with the inside down and start with the first graphic. We would recommend that you personalise the bag before hand to give it that ulimate look you require! Now cut out the laptop cover, turn it and using the laser engraver, mark the seam line.
You can now adjust the parameter settings. Bear in mind that the parameters may differ depending on your laser machine and laser power available. (Remember: for the colour black, parameters are only necessary if you also want to engrave on the material.)
Laser Parameters (optional):
Colour | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Black | Engrave CO2 | 80 | 30 | 500 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | - | - |
Laser Parameters (cutting):
Colour | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | Cut CO2 | 10 | 1.5 | 1000 |
Blue | Cut CO2 | 7 | 2 | 1000 |
Colour | Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | 1 | on | - | - |
Blue | 1 | on | +3mm | - |
Step 3: Finishing
Always insert the eyelet before closing the lateral seam. Remember to follow the instructions provided with the eyelets.
You may now close the seam on the left and right sides of the cover. The scratching lines should help you get the positioning right.
Lastly, insert the rubber band, knot it together and your laptop bag is ready to sell or gift!
