Halloween lantern
Step by step instruction
Use this step-by-step guide to make a spooky laser engraved Halloween lantern. For this lantern, we used TroGlass Color Gloss in Orange and Black. The tutorial also includes a graphic file and the JobControl® laser parameters at the end of the page.
Preparation
Required material
- 1/4 sheet of cast acrylic in black or orange
- Acrylic glue
Machine used
- Speedy 400, 80 watt
- 2" lens
- Vacuum table with acrylic cutting grid
Tips
Use the 2" lens for best cutting results.
Remove the protective foil on the back of the acrylic after cutting. This prevents the material from being scratched.
Step by step
Step 1: Preparation
You can import our graphic or create your own design. To begin, remove the protective foil from the front of the acrylic and put the material into the laser.
Send the job to the laser using the settings below.
Print settings
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 500 dpi | none |

Step 2: Laser process
The first thing to do is to define the laser parameters. The parameters will depend on which machine you are using and the laser power available.
Laser Parameters
Color | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
black | Cut CO2 | 16 | 20 | 500 |
red | Cut CO2 | 50 | 0.2 | 5000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | on | - | - |

Step 3: Assembly
Once you are finished laser processing, remove the protective foil from the back of the material, and then clean the pieces with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Next you can assemble the five pieces and secure them with acrylic glue. Your Halloween lantern is ready!
