Yorkshire Joinery Manufacturers branch out with Trotec.
A family run business.
S. Taylor & Son Ltd. has supplied quality joinery items to consumers and trade customers since 1850. With a selection of CNC engraving machines at their disposal, the company produces wooden items such as directional signs for county councils and national parks.
With a rich history, S. Taylor has since expanded services and now have customers UK wide.
Getting to the fine details.
As a woodworker, the CNC machinery proved to be highly efficient at cutting thicker materials used in S. Taylor's application. However, they found that with engraving, they couldn't produce markings that were as detailed as they wanted. S. Taylor did not want to replace their current CNC machines due to their cutting efficiency, so the company began looking at laser technology as a potential solution to their problem. It was this decision that led them to contact Trotec Laser.
The after sales support we received from Trotec and our area manager has been fantastic. Once the machine was installed they spent a full day with us providing training on the laser and software to make sure we were able to hit the ground running. When we needed additional help using the laser software, our area manager held a remote screen-sharing session with us, guiding us through a number of functions such as resizing our graphics for production. We can't fault the support we have received from Trotec.
A new process and business venture.
S. Taylor opted to purchase a Speedy 400 laser engraver to expand their production capabilities. A flatbed laser with a bed size of 1000mm x 610mm, the Speedy 400 offers high-speed processing up to 3.55m/sec and a superior product build for dust protection; making it a versatile option for processing materials where lots of debris is produced.
The laser has proven to be an excellent addition to S. Taylor's production. During production, the material is cut using their CNC routers and then engraved using the Speedy 400, which offers a greater level of detail when engraving. Thanks to the improved engraving results, the company now offers a personalization service.
Since installation, the Speedy 400 has opened up new business opportunities for S. Taylor. They launched sister company The Oak Folk, with the core products made using material offcuts from S. Taylor, however, they have also been able to produce a range of slate coasters which have proved to be very popular. Without the laser, they would not be able to produce this product.
