Green Grass Design is an upmarket graphic design studio, based in Parkhurst Johannesburg. They initially started their business off as soley a design studio, but as their company grew, so did their creative ideas and their need for a laser.They now produce unique laser cut goods for their corporate clients, as well as create their own products for their self-owned retail store, which sells to the general public.

No limitations from third-party companies.

As a graphic design studio, Green Grass Design's ideas and concepts were generally bound by client expectations and limitation (budget, time constraints, project briefs given etc.). Their concepts were also limited by the third-party companies who were responsible for the out-put of their concepts (i.e. printers, and other fabricators), in terms of the limitability of the services they could offer (i.e. only cutting or only marking etc .) Upon attending a signage and print exhibition in Johannesburg, owner Ria Kraftt came across a Trotec stand with various applications running on our machines. With an undying love for hands-on creations, she was instantly intrigued and began to explore the possibilities and opportunities the machine could give her.

Use the creative freedom

As an established graphic design studio with multiple creative minds constantly buzzing with ideas, they started out using their laser by testing their own ideas first. They saw laser machines as a unique outlet for their ideas with the added benefit of tangible creations. By creating their own products, they were also able to use their creative freedom without being dictacted to by a brand. Through doing this, their designers were encouraged to use their individuality, which combined with the 3D aspect of laser produced products, added an extra element to their concepts. Ria's perception of the laser cutting industry is that, people generally show interest in the industry as a business and then create standard applications, such as branding items, signage, engraving etc. Whereas Green Grass Design prides themselves in innovative designs that transfer through to their final product.
