Preparation
Materials required
- TroGlass 3 mm or other suitable material
Laser machine used
- Speedy 360, 80 watt with a 2" lens
For this application sample you can use any laser machine from the Speedy laser engraver series.
Tip
We suggest using a measuring calliper when measuring the item that the jig is to be used for. If working with acrylic make sure your bed is completely sealed off to ensure that you create a nice clean edge.
Step by step
Step 1: Import file design into Software
Begin by creating your own design or using our template. Send it to the laser with the recommended laser parameters, which could differ depending on your laser machine used and the available laser power.
Print settings:
Process mode | Resolution | Cut line |
---|---|---|
Standard | 500dpi | None |
Halftone | Others |
---|---|
Colour | None |
Step 2: Laser process
As a jig can be made from many different materials, make sure that you process it correctly. For example, ensure that you are using the correct table, that your exhaust is activated if required or that you have masked off the bed.
Laser Parameters:
Colour | Process | Power (%) | Speed (%) | ppi/Hz |
---|---|---|---|---|
Red | Cut | 90 | 0.40 | 5000 |
Passes | Air Assist | Z-Offset | Advanced |
---|---|---|---|
1 | ON | - | - |
Step 3: Post-processing
You can use glue or a premanufactured material with an adhesive backing to stick the two materials together.
Inspiration
- Jigs can be used for almost any products you can think of, including pet tags, keys, components and more
- Jigs are particularly helpful for laser engraving odd-shaped items which can be challenging and time consuming. Using a jig helps to provide repeatability, accuracy, and interchangeability
- You can make several jigs and improve your daily workflow
