Display for Aluminium Tags

See how you can make a trendy display for your aluminium tags out of Trotec materials.

Preparation

Required material:
Machine used:

This display can of course also be produced with all other machines of the Speedy family or SP series.

Important

For best laser cutting results, use the acrylic grid table when cutting TroGlass and the aluminium cutting grid table for the wood. For optimum vacuum, cover blank areas of the bed with a suitable material, such as paper.

Step by step

Wooden back of display
Step 1

Step 1: Wooden back

Import the design template into your graphic program and adapt it as required. Start with the wooden back. Send the graphic to JobControl® using the following parameters.

Print settings

Process Resolution Cut line
Standard 500 dpi none
Halftone Others
colour enhanced geometries,
inner geometries first

Tip:

To save material, cut out material from the back part as it will mostly be covered by the acrylic front.

Step 2

Step 2: Laser cutting the back

Insert the veneered wood into the laser and maximise the vacuum to compensate for any unevenness in the material. Cut the back from the material and then clean it using a damp cloth. The suggested parameters can differ depending on the laser machine used and its laser power.

Laser Parameters:

Colour Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
red cutting CO2 100 1.0 1000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 on - -
Print driver settings for hanging bars
Step 3

Step 3: The hanging bars

Step 3 is processing the small components: Send the graphic to your laser machine. The black-white gradients in the bars will safely hold the ball chains thanks to the slight depressions in the material.

Print settings

Process Resolution Cut line
Relief 500 dpi none
Halftone Others

Step 4

Step 4: Laser cutting and engraving the hanging bars

Load the solid wood onto your laser machine bed and make sure that it lies flat. Laser engrave your design then cut the hanging bars from the material.

Tip:

Due to the small geometry of the hanging bars, we reduced the JobControl® standard parameter and increased the correction to 20.

Laser Parameters

Color Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
Black engraving CO2 80 50  500
 Red cutting CO2 100 1.0 1000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
2 on - -
1 on - 20
Laser cutting adhesive letters
Step 5

Step 5: Adhesive letters

A highlight of the display, the adhesive letters are cut from new Trotec veneered wood sheets. The frame for the letters is a positioning aid. When happy with the design send your graphic to the laser using the following parameters:

Print settings

Process Resolution Cut line
Standard 500 dpi none
Halftone Others
colour enhanced geometries,
inner geometries first

Tip:

You can use different materials to create the letters to add a personal finish to your display stand. Before laser cutting, attach double-sided adhesive tape to the material.

Step 6

Step 6: Laser cutting the adhesive letters

Load the veneered wood with double-sided adhesive tape onto your laser machine bed and cut them from the material. Once cut clean the letters using a damp cloth. To easily remove the letters from the machine attach a strip of paper tape to the letters.

Laser Parameters

Colour Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
red cutting CO2 100 0.8 1000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 on - -

Step 7

Step 7: Stand

For stability we created the stand from two layers of solid wood using the same graphic.

Important tip:

Check whether the material thicknesses of both parts fit into the slot of the stand, adapting them if necessary.

Print settings

Process Resolution Cut line
standard 500 dpi none
Halftone Others
colour enhanced geometries,
inner geometries first

Step 8

Step 8: Laser cutting the stand

Set the parameters. Load and position the solid wood sheet into your laser cutter, ensuring it lies evenly.

Duplicate the job in the JobControl® laser software and cut both stands. Once completed clean them using a damp cloth.

Laser Parameters

Colour Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
red cutting CO2 100 1.2 1000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 on - -

Info:

We used the standard JobControl® laser parameters for solid wood, which can be downloaded from www.troteclaser.co.uk

Laser cutting front of stand
Step 9

Step 9: Front part of the stand

For the final part of the display switch from the aluminium cutting grid to the vacuum table. Put the acrylic cutting grid on the vacuum table and send the graphic to the laser with the following settings:

Print settings

Process Resolution Cut line
Standard 500 dpi none
Halftone Others
colour enhanced geometries,
inner geometries first
Laser engraving front of display
Step 10

Step 10: Laser cutting the front part of the stand

Remove the protective foil from the front of the material and load the TroGlass Satins into your laser machine.

Laser Parameters

Colour Process Power (%) Speed (%) ppi/Hz
black engraving CO2 18 20 500
red cutting CO2 50 0.2 5000
Passes Air Assist Z-Offset Advanced
1 on - High Quality
1 on - -
Pet tag display
Step 11

Step 11: Assembly

First fix the wooden adhesive letters onto the black acrylic front of the display, followed by the hanging bars. Finally, put the front and back part into the stand and your self-made display is ready to display your tags.

Inspiration

Any combination of material colours from the Trotec range can be used to create your stand. Using your company logo is an excellent way to create an point of sale display.
