Balancing Between Creativity and Technology.
It can be hard out there for a small business. More so than ever, the pressures of ever-bigger competitors, and ever-smaller margins are being felt across all corners of the economy. To compete in 2019, it's mandatory that a smaller company like SMUKK - one that continues to grow its collections of greeting cards and personalized MDF/acrylate engravings in face of mounting challenge - find the right partners, ready to be as ambitious and envelope-pushing as they are. That's where we come in.
Startup mentality.
Kim Kiekens started SMUKK (Danish for Nice) only a few months ago, and continues to maintain her excited, startup mentality. ''We are enterprising, curious, flexible and eager but at the same time experienced and professional '', says Kiekens. The company currently has two employees. The founder does the technical side, while her colleague, Hannelore Verstappen, is responsible for the creative side. That combination is of significant value.
"We know the possibilities and the pitfalls of technology.'' In fact, much of the impetus for starting SMUKK arrived when Kiekens and Verstappen were told that one of their ideas, while creative, was technically infeasible. ''We did not want to make any concessions and therefore decided to look for a way to implement our creativity. The choice was made quickly, '' Kiekens explains. '' Trotec Laser offered us that opportunity! ''
The Trotec solution.
It was while working at KU Leuven that Kiekens first encountered a Trotec laser. "It was at work, where I discovered the endless possibilities of such a laser machine."She remembers distinctly being struck at how laser processing allowed the user (be they staff or student) to be endlessly creative, while maintaining quality of material and of their vision.
As the ideas for SMUKK began to take shape, Kiekens made a visit to her local Trotec showroom, where our technicians and marketing specialists offered extra confidence and inspiration. ''It was very nice to think along with it from the side of Trotec", she explains. "Together with [Trotec Laser] we have performed a cost-benefit analysis. That made me feel that Trotec takes its customers seriously. SMUKK now enjoys the advantages of a Trotec laser, which offer many possibilities, without new maintenance tasks. With the laser machine you only have to configure the settings once, after that it can be used again the next time. "One thing is certain, our question of how we can do everything can be answered: with Trotec Laser".
